Entry to Employment

What is Entry to Employment (E2E)?

E2E is a training programme for young people between the ages of 16-18 who:

  • Want to get a job but left school with no, or very few, qualifications
  • Would like to work and train for a qualification at the same time
  • Would like to join an apprenticeship programme

The aim of Quest's E2E programme is to help young people improve their chances of getting a job, progress on to an apprenticeship programme or enrolling on a course at a local college.  As well as learning about their chosen area of work, E2E learners will also learn other skills to help them find and keep a job and improve their life skills.

From 30 June 2008 young people on E2E receive an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) of £30 a week regardless of family income. Any other benefits that the family receives such as child benefit, income support and working tax credit are not affected by the receipt of the EMA.  Young people also have the opportunity to earn bonuses during their time on the programme.

Young people on E2E aged 16-17 who live in London can also apply for free travel on buses.

Vocational qualifications

Following the successful completion of the six week E2E induction the young person will work towards vocational qualifications related to their chosen area of employment.  These will include:

  • Units from C&G NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing
  • C&G Level 2 Certificate in Retailing
  • C&G Level 1 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
  • EDI Certificate in Administration Level 2
  • C&G Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number

All the above vocational qualifications have been specifically chosen to help the young person's progress to an apprenticeship programme as soon as the opportunity arises.

Work experience

After their six-week induction to E2E most young people will be found a suitable work placement to give them experience of real work in their chosen job area.  Once the young person has achieved their vocational qualifications, they may be able to stay with their work experience provider and transfer to an apprenticeship programme or a job, find a job or an apprenticeship with another employer or provider or enrol on a college course. Quest staff and the learner's personal adviser will give guidance and advice on the most suitable options.

Activities and visits

Visits to places of interest, taster days and short courses are also part of the E2E programme. Learners are encouraged to plan visits themselves giving them valuable experience of using the telephone and internet and working together as a team.
